On Wednesday morning 2-19-20 we had a tragic fire that burned to the ground the newly remodeled she-shed we created for Miss Pearl the pig & Rambo the tortoise.
We greatly thank the good Samaritan who alerted us to the fire and the local German Valley Fire Department for their rapid and thorough response. The fire is being classified as an accident and as yet there has been no cause determined. Alex R. heroically saved Pearl, but the flames were too high and smoke too thick to be able to find Rambo and sadly she has gone to the Rainbow Bridge far before her time. We are devastated to say the least. (CritterCampmom was only one week post op of her hip replacement at the time and unable to even walk out to the scene safely. It has been an exceptionally painful time, both physically and emotionally) The building itself is insured and we are in the process of working with the company on the claim. Our deductible is $1000 and many items were lost that must be replaced immediately such as Pearl's food, hoof trimmers, security camera, etc. Plus we have purchased remote smart smoke detectors for the other building and the main house that alert our phones if there is smoke, something we never knew existed.
(Pearl is currently staying in the entryway of the rabbit & guinea pig areas, but may go to an already arranged temporary foster home until we can rebuild her area depending on how long this process is.) Thank you to everyone for their support during this unimaginably difficult time |

Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary has always been committed to the well being of all companion animals and animals bred in captivity. Although we do not specifically accept farm animals we believe that they are deserving of a full happy life and should not be raised and slaughtered for human consumption. Many of our own board members and volunteers are practicing vegetarians or vegans and we encourage others to eliminate as many animal products from their diet and clothing as possible. In keeping with this dedication to the welfare of all animals Critter Camp vows to only allow vegetarian/vegan foods (striving to be as vegan as possible) to be served at any events we host, as well as to be available in our future facility (i.e. snack machines, etc.)
